Nociceptive Pain: Usually the result of tissue injury. Examples of nociceptive pain are arthritis pain, ankle sprain, mechanical back pain or post surgical pain.

Inflammatory Pain: An abnormal inflammation caused by an inappropriate response by the body’s immune system. Examples may include: gout and rheumatoid arthritis.

Neuropathic Pain: May be caused by nerve irritation. Examples may include: sciatic nerve pain, disc herniation and trigeminal neuralgia.

Functional Pain: Pain that does not have an obvious origination point, but can cause pain. Examples may include: fibromyalgia and irritable bowel syndrome.
